Sandy "The Storm" Tongalahi aged 31 and now retired from competitive sport.
Sandy has had 5 fights 2 win 1 draw and 2 losses is also a personal trainer.
Sandy, now N Z I.S.K.A Super Bantamweight Thai Boxing Champion
fell while
doing double somersaults and sustained a compressial fracture in her spine.
Two years later she started to walk normally - another two year gap she began
to manage short runs of 5 minutes (with a 2 day recovery!). The next phrase was
trying something brave like mountain biking through which she began training
at a gym. Subsequently gained qualifications in personal training at Les Mills
World of Fitness, Auckland, while managing a sales team. There she met
Eddy Tongalahi and in 1994 started training with Eddy for Thai Kick Boxing.
Discovering that even though the injury was still painful, the sport was enabling
her to become stronger and fitter than anything else she had tried, and with
the strength and fitness finally increasing, the pain started decreasing.
Now a N Z Champion she is witness to the fact that anyone can do what they set their mind to.
Eddy & Sandy have been running the Lee Gar Fitness Centre since 1996 in
Albany Auckland. Primary a kick boxing gym but also the number one personal
training centre on the North Shore. The majority of their members come in
for fitness and enjoyment - their personal training clients are those with the
highest rate of results on the North Shore, Auckland - physically and
personally. Sandy also runs kick boxing classes at "Mainly Women' in
Newmarket Auckland, and runs the Lee Gar Fitness Centre's Demo Team,
which performs at functions such as the Sports North Harbour Awards.
